Weekend on the Rocks 2008

Join us at Tombstone Campground on the Dempster Highway for the 5th Annual Geology Weekend. The program starts on Saturday, Ausgust 30th at 1:00 PM with a 3 hour geological hike.

Birding at the Sewage Lagoons!

See over a thousand ducks and geese and a few shorebirds at the Whitehorse Sewage Lagoons with Yukon Bird Club member Helmut Grünberg. Meet at the SS Klondike at 9:30 am. (3-4 hours). Dress for the weather, wear appropriate footwear, and bring binoculars if you have them. Sharing of vehicles is strongly encouraged. Non-members, visiting birders and beginners welcome!

Celebrate ‘People at the Poles’ Day

On September 24th the international IPY community will celebrate the human dimensions of IPY. This is the first ever IPY to include the human health, social, political, and economic aspects of the polar regions in its research program and to engage polar communities in research development, implementation and dissemination. Canada was instrumental in encouraging the inclusion of the human dimension in IPY 2007-2008.

Yukon Invasive Species Symposium

Shepard’s Knoll Stroll

This interpretive walk takes you into Lu’àn Man Keyi: Kluane Country, A People’s Place. Experience the beauty of Kluane Country and learn about its rich cultural heritage. Meet at Tachäl Dhäl Visitor Centre, 72 km North of Haines Junction on the Alaska Highway at 11:00 AM (3 hours). Please bring water, lunch and sturdy footwear.

Cost: $4.90/person

June 27 – August 22 (Fridays)

Sheep Creek Hike

Come join a Parks Canada Interpreter on a full day hike!  Learn about grizzly bears and how they live in their Kluane wilderness home. Meet at Tachäl Dhäl Visitor Centre, 72 km North of Haines Junction on the Alaska Highway, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm. Please bring water, lunch and sturdy footwear.

Cost: $19.60/person

June 28 – August 23 (Saturdays)

Dezadeash River Stroll

Of all the forests in the world, boreal forests are those found at highest latitudes, and yet numerous plants and animals have evolved and adapted in order to live here. Join this stroll through a boreal forest and learn more about this amazing place. Meet at the trailhead next to Kluane RV Campground at 7:30 pm (2 hours). Please bring comfortable footwear.

Cost: $4.90/person

June 22 – August 24 (Sundays)

Balancing Bears Campfire Talk

Though grizzly bears are powerful and fascinating creatures, they are quite fragile as a species. Join the campfire circle to learn about the strength and fragility of this amazing animal. Meet at Kathleen Lake Campground - 26 km's South of Haines Junction on Haines Road at 8 pm (1 hour).

Swan Haven Interpretation Centre is OPEN!

Monday - Friday: 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Saturday - Sunday: noon to 7:00 PM

Take part in this Yukon spring tradition. Join a viewing walk with interpreters and find out how the migration is unfolding, bring a picnic or relax on a viewing deck. Inside you'll find interpretive displays and information about the birds found here in the spring. Book your class for a fun, structured school program (everyday except Wednesdays) or your public group for Wednesday tour. Be sure to vote for your favourite youth art piece from around the Yukon.
