Territorial Parks

The Yukon Parks Branch of Environment Yukon is responsible for the management and operations of territorial parks under the Yukon Parks and Lands Certainty Act.

Yukon's Territorial parks currently include the Tombstone Territorial Park, Herschel Island, Herschel Island Qikiqtaruk Territorial Park, Fishing Branch Ni'iinlii Njik Park, and the Coal River Springs Territorial Park.

New parks are coming about through First Nation settlement agreements.
As the park network expands, Yukon Parks will continue to work closely with First Nations to plan, manage and operate these new additions. Yukoners will be asked to help us in planning these new parks.

Three territorial parks are currently awaiting designation. These include Kusawa Territorial Park, Agay Mene Territorial Park, and Asi Keyi Territorial Park.

Territorial Parks

Tombstone Territorial Park

This park includes a concentration of diverse ecological niches, which has resulted in a diverse collection of flora and fauna, uncommon at this latitude. The unique collection of vegetation and wildlife is linked to the special geology and geography of the region.

Herschel Island Qikiqtaruk Territorial Park

This island protects a unique combination of natural and human heritage. Its dry polar climate is home to a unique combination of arctic plants, animals and sea life, including the largest colony of Black Guillemots in the Western Arctic.

Fishing Branch Ni'iinlii Njik Park

This park protects a far northern wilderness with unique features created by limestone caves, year-round open water, salmon runs, and grizzly bears at concentrations rarely seen at the arctic circle.

Coal River Springs Territorial Park

With its extensive limestone terraces created by cool water springs and the rich diversity of life forms associated with year-round flowing water, Coal River Springs is a unique feature of territorial and national significance.
