Water Resources
Environment Yukon shares the responsibility for managing Yukon waters with four other departments:
- Health and Social Services – drinking water and private sewage disposal
- Highways and Public Works – provide water and sewage to unincorporated communities.
- Energy Mines and Resources – regulate placer mining activities
- Executive Council Office – Water Board Secretariat - responsible for the water licensing process
The Water Resources Branch of Environment Yukon is responsible for:

water-related strategic planning and policy development and implementation;
-
regional water quality and quantity monitoring and research;
-
provision of expert technical advice regionally and nationally;
-
enforcement and compliance of the Waters Act and water licences; and
-
administration of water security deposits.

The Waters Act and Waters Regulation guide deposit of waste and water use in the Yukon. Activity is regulated by the Yukon government.
